Chapter 144 My Wife Wants to Switch to Movies? I've Already Written the Script
The first rays of morning sunlight pierced through the window curtains, casting a stark white light on the stack of A4 papers on the dining table.
The air was filled with the aroma of millet porridge and fried dumplings, the unique scent of the Lin family's home cooking. Lin Zhou, wearing a pink Hello Kitty apron, placed a steaming cup of milk in front of Su Qingge and casually tapped a stack of papers, making a crisp sound.
"Here you go, this is the surprise you wanted."
Su Qingge yawned and lazily reached for her cup. After a night's rest, her complexion had improved considerably, but her eyes still betrayed a nonchalant attitude towards the bet from the previous night.
"So thick?"
She glanced at the stack of manuscripts, which still held the warmth of the printer, and a playful smile curved her lips.
"Lin, you didn't just cobble together a bunch of jokes from Baidu all night, did you? Let me be clear, if it's some kind of 'domineering CEO falls in love with me' rambling story, I'm afraid I won't be able to drink my milk this early in the morning."
"Whether it's just a chronological account or not, you'll only know after reading it."
Lin Zhou took off his apron, sat calmly opposite him, peeled a tea egg and put it into Nuonuo's bowl.
"However, I suggest you don't drink the milk yet, lest you burst out laughing or... cry so hard you can't swallow it."
Su Qingge raised an eyebrow, neither confirming nor denying. She held the milk glass in one hand and casually turned to the first page with the other.
At first, her posture was relaxed, even casual.
A Chinese Odyssey Part One: Pandora's Box?
The title sounded rather shady, like some third-rate online movie copycat. She casually glanced at the opening scene descriptions: Five Mountains, the Axe Gang, Supreme Treasure…
"Robbers? Mountain bandits? What kind of nonsense is this?"
She chuckled softly, took a sip of milk, and was already planning how to make Lin Zhou willingly wash the dishes for a month.
However, with the rustling sound of papers turning, the atmosphere in the restaurant subtly changed.
When she turned to the third page, Su Qingge, who had been leaning back in her chair, sat up slightly. Those seemingly nonsensical lines exploded in her mind like candy-coated bullets.
Behind those absurd conversations lies an indescribable sense of rhythm.
Turning to page ten, she realized she hadn't picked up the milk glass in her hand for a long time. The steam had dissipated from the glass, and the surface of the liquid was perfectly still.
Her brows furrowed and relaxed at times, and the corners of her mouth would occasionally turn up because of Supreme Treasure's few cheeky lines, but her eyes grew deeper and deeper.
Lin Zhou didn't disturb her, but simply watched quietly. He knew that this powerful tear gas canister from Earth was beginning to take effect.
Time passed by, and Nuonuo had long since finished eating and gone to the living room to watch cartoons. Only the sound of turning pages remained at the dining table.
When Su Qingge turned to the second half of "A Chinese Odyssey" and read the part where Fairy Zixia left a tear in Supreme Treasure's heart, her fingers trembled violently.
That deep affection suppressed behind laughter and scolding is like a rusty, dull knife, pulling back and forth in the softest part of the heart.
"My ideal man is a peerless hero; one day he will come to marry me riding on a seven-colored cloud..."
Su Qingge recited the line in a low voice, her voice slightly hoarse.
She raised her head, and her eyes, usually so aloof and proud, were now misty with tears. She looked at Lin Zhou, her expression indescribably complex, as if she were seeing this man for the first time.
"This...you wrote it?"
"Doesn't it look like it?"
Lin Zhou handed him a tissue, his tone tinged with pride, but mostly gentle.
"I've said it before, some stories are the kind where you can see the soul at a glance. The character of Zixia Fairy, that moth-to-a-flame persistence, that tragic beauty where even if you guess the beginning, you can't guess the ending, I can't think of anyone else who could play her but you."
Su Qingge took the tissue, but instead of wiping her tears, she held it tightly in her hand.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm the emotions surging in her chest. As a professional actress, she knew all too well the value of this script.
This is not a bad movie.
This is a tragedy disguised as a comedy, deconstructing the deepest destiny with the most absurd methods.
"Lin Zhou".
She suddenly spoke, her voice still trembling, but her tone was firm and unquestionable.
"I lost this bet."
"Don't even mention a month, I'll take care of all the dishes at home from now on."
She jumped to her feet, the chair scraping loudly against the floor. Without even changing out of her pajamas, she grabbed the stack of scripts and rushed into the bedroom.
"I need to change my clothes! I need to go to the company!"
"This script must be approved immediately! Nobody can stop me!"
Watching her hurried departure, Lin Zhou couldn't help but laugh. He slowly drank the now-cold milk and called out towards the bedroom:
"Hey, no rush! The director and male lead haven't been decided yet!"
"It's decided! You're the one!"
From the bedroom came Su Qingge's indistinct yet domineering response, accompanied by the rustling sound of her changing clothes.
"Besides you, the guy who wrote this twisted script, who else could play that dead monkey!"
Half an hour later, at the Starry Sky Entertainment Building.
A black van screeched to a halt at the entrance. Su Qingge, in her high heels and clutching the folder tightly, strode into the top-floor conference room like a female warrior about to go to battle.
In the conference room, the company's senior executives were sitting together, discussing several scripts that had been considered.
Everyone was stunned when they saw their queen of pop barge in with such a menacing look.
"Qingge? What happened? What serious incident has occurred?"
Mr. Wang, who was in charge of the film and television department, was startled, thinking that Su Qingge had been targeted by some rival again.
"Mr. Wang, please remove all those rubbish scripts."
Su Qingge slammed the folder in her hand onto the center of the conference table. The loud bang made the mineral water bottles on the table jump.
Her eyes were still red, but the light inside them was frighteningly bright.
"I want to film this."
"Immediately! Right now! Get this project approved!"
Mr. Wang picked up the folder with a bewildered look on his face. When he saw the words on the cover, his brows furrowed into a deep frown.
Several senior executives gathered around and read out the headline that had baffled them:
"A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella?"
"What is this? Is it fan fiction about Journey to the West? Or a children's play?"
President Wang looked up at Su Qingge, his eyes filled with doubt and incomprehension.
"Qingge, calm down. We're aiming to transition into making big-budget films and go for awards. This thing, which sounds like a cheesy mythological comedy just from the name... are you sure you're not joking?"
