Chapter 1440: Back to Normal
Chapter 1440: Back to Normal
Zhang Xianhai’s right hand trembled, and the scalpel in his hand directly sliced into the necrotic muscle of Jiang’s wound. Jiang’s whole face twisted up, his entire right arm kept trembling nonstop, but his left arm didn’t move at all, showing no sign of tension. It was as if the whole left arm didn’t even belong to Jiang Wen. Jiang Wen said in a low voice, "Xian Hei, what are you waiting for? Keep going!"
Zhang Xianhai clenched his teeth and swung the scalpel in his hand. The scissors in his other hand never stopped. He cut away all the necrotic muscle tissue with the scalpel.
By this time Jiang Guangrong was drenched in sweat, and he didn’t even know when his right hand had clamped tightly onto Sunx Han’s left hand. Jiang Guangrong himself didn’t realize he had left two claw marks on the back of Sunx Han’s hand.
Sunx Han seemed completely unaware. He let Jiang Guangrong squeeze his left hand, while gently covering his right hand over it.
Tian Jue listened to Xiao Zheng’s words, laughing so hard she shook. After a while, Tian Jue said, "All right, Captain Xiao, of course I won’t get in the way of a busy officer like you. My boss said he wants to see you. I’m here to take you to meet my boss!"
"Your boss?" Xiao Zheng frowned. "Who’s your boss? What does he want with me?"
"My boss’s surname is Jiang. Captain Xiao should know who my boss is, right?"
"Jiang Meihao? What, he’s not dead yet?" Xiao Zheng’s face showed a hint of shock, but very quickly his face returned to normal. "Your boss has nothing to do with me. Go back and tell your boss not to come looking for me again. I’ve got nothing to do with him!"
Tian Jue seemed to have anticipated Xiao Zheng’s reaction long ago. She smiled as she walked in closer to Xiao Zheng. "You sure about that?"
"Oh? You threatening me?" Xiao Zheng acted like he’d just heard a great joke and laughed. "Go back and tell your boss, if he wants to threaten me, he needs to first find a few fierce men to come here, not send a girl like you. A girl like you can’t threaten anyone!"
"Really?" Tian Jue gave Xiao Zheng a look.
Xiao Zheng frowned. "What? You still want to do something to me?"
Tian Jue took a step forward. Her right fist shot out like lightning. Xiao Zheng had been on guard for a long time—he crouched down, dodging Tian Jue’s punch. Her fist slammed into the tree behind Xiao Zheng instead. The collision of fist and trunk made a dull thud, and the leaves on the tree fell like raindrops.
Tian Jue knew that when Xiao crouched, her fist would drop, but she still didn’t pull it back. She raised her right knee to clash with Xiao’s, and Xiao kept fighting.
Xiao Zheng crossed his arms, trying to block Tian Jue’s right knee. The moment his arms met her knee, Xiao Zheng suddenly felt like his arms had snapped clean. He cried out, withdrawing his arms, grabbing one forearm with both hands, his face contorted in pain. Only now did Xiao Zheng understand just how terrifying this harmless-looking little girl with a smile on her face really was, how frighteningly strong!
Tian Jue drew back her right knee, set her right foot on the ground, then lifted her left leg. Her whole body twisted to the right, and her left foot whipped hard toward Xiao Zheng’s head. Xiao Zheng could no longer withstand Tian Jue’s lightning-fast assault; he was swept clean off his feet by her kick.
Xiao flew off like a kite with its string cut, buzzing in his ears as Tian Jue’s kick sent him spinning.
Tian Jue stared coldly at Xiao Zheng and slowly walked toward him where he lay on the ground.
Xiao Zheng saw Tian Jue walking over with that thoughtful look, and he was so scared he hurriedly covered his head with his hands, curling himself into a ball.
"What’s going on, Captain!" In the distance, a detective was drawn over by Xiao Zheng’s scream. Five or six detectives rushed over, pointing their guns at Tian Jue. The lead policeman quickly crouched down to check on Xiao Zheng’s condition.
Xiao Zheng gave a frightened glance at Tian Jue. If he hadn’t experienced it himself, he would never have believed that he’d been put down by that smiling woman. He even had a hunch: even with his men aiming guns at her, if this woman wanted to, his men would still be taken out by her. The woman in front of him was too terrifying!
Xiao Zheng swallowed hard and shouted, "What are you doing? Don’t lower your guns! I just fell. This beautiful lady came over to help me. What are you doing? You think I’m some scammer faking accidents for money?"
"Huh? Captain, you just fell?" The lead detective stared wide-eyed at Xiao Zheng, not believing it. "You can fall like that?"
Xiao Zheng couldn’t hold back a burst of anger and barked, "If you don’t stay at your posts and patrol properly, what the hell are you doing? Get back to your posts, now!"
The few officers couldn’t help looking at each other, then left the area.
Tian Jue had been smiling at Xiao Zheng the whole time, as if none of this had anything to do with her. "Captain Xiao, so, are you willing to come with me to meet my boss now?"
Xiao Zheng took a deep breath, a bitter smile appearing on his face. "Do I still have a choice?"
Tian Jue kept smiling and pointed at a car nearby. "Then, Police Officer Xiao, come with me."
Xiao Chang let out a long sigh and followed Tian Jue into the car.
Soon, Tian Jue brought Xiao Zheng to the place where Jiang Guangrong was staying.
Xiao Zheng immediately understood, seeing Jiang Guangrong in a wheelchair, his head wrapped in thick bandages, the headshot real as can be. Xiao Zheng was shocked as well. He’d been a detective for many years, and this was the first time he’d heard of someone surviving after being shot in the head. How tough did a guy have to be to live through that? Was he chosen? Aside from someone picked by God, who could survive a bullet to the head?
When Jiang Guangrong saw Xiao Zheng, a smile appeared on his face. "Officer Xiao, we haven’t met before."
Jiang Guangrong nodded, and with some deeper meaning said, "I hear that after the Revitalization Association swallows the Qingyun Gang, Police Officer Xiao’s position in Revitalization will rise as well."
The corner of Xiao Zheng’s mouth twitched slightly. What Jiang Guangrong said was true. Once the Revitalization Association annexed the Qingyun Gang, the status of the Great Officers in Revitalization would soar. The reason he’d been placed in an important post under Wushang while working at the station was precisely this. Xiao Zheng had always wanted to get rid of Jiang Guangrong. If Wushang ever found out he had dealings with Jiang Guangrong, then once Revitalization and the Qingyun Gang were in Director Zhao and Zheng Xueyun’s hands and they got word that he’d helped Jiang Guangrong come back, he’d really be dead!
Seeing how ugly Xiao Zheng’s face had become, Jiang Guangrong understood that Xiao knew exactly why he’d had Tian Jue bring him here. Jiang Guangrong nodded lightly again and said, "I wonder if Police Officer Xiao has any interest in teaming up with me? With your help, I’ll have enough confidence to deal with the Revitalization Association!"
Panic suddenly flashed across Xiao Zheng’s face. He took several big steps back, pointing his right hand at Jiang Guangrong’s face in disbelief. "You? What are you trying to do? You sure you’re not joking? Just you alone? Don’t forget the Xingwu Gang is hunting you right now. You’re too busy staying alive to take revenge, and you still want to go after the Revitalization Club?"
At Xiao Zheng’s mention of revenge, a vicious look surfaced on Jiang Guangrong’s face. His hands clenched tight on the wheelchair’s armrests, and he said in a low voice, "This revenge is different. Either they die, or I die!"
Xiao Zheng flicked a glance at Tian Jue standing by the door behind him. He knew that since Jiang Guangrong had his eye on him, he wouldn’t be allowed to leave without giving a satisfactory answer. And that woman at the door was too terrifying; he had no way to fight back. Xiao Zheng sighed helplessly. "Then you have to show that you’ve got the strength to go up against Revitalization. I don’t know if following you is a dead end, or if I’m just walking myself to the gallows with a black mark on my record."
Jiang Guangrong fought to steady his emotions and said softly, "I’m not alone. Tomorrow I’m going to kill Zhong Botao and join the Xingwu Gang!"
Surprise flickered across Xiao Zheng’s face. He knew Jiang Guangrong a bit; he knew he wasn’t the type to brag like this. For him to say that meant he really was going to join the Xingwu Gang. Let someone like Jiang Guangrong, already full of hatred, join the Xingwu Gang... Xiao Zheng could almost be sure a great slaughter was about to erupt in the whole city!
Seeing Xiao Zheng’s expression, Jiang Guangrong nodded in satisfaction, more confident in his own plan. He went on, "So I welcome Police Officer Xiao to stand on Director Zhao’s side—and mine. Police Officer Xiao, it’s time for you to choose a line to stand in."
