Chapter 124: Sylvia arrives
Chapter 124: Sylvia arrives
A thick, suffocating presence seeped into the battlefield, and a larger Shadow Wolf slowly joined the battle. Anywhere it passed, the warriors were frozen in fear, then died from sheer terror.
Gomen’s expression hardened, and he quickly met up with his uncle, Cassius.
"Do you think it’s King Stage?" He asked, his expression grim.
Cassius observed the advancing wolf, then shook his head.
"Rank Three Master Stage on the verge of breaking through. It will be very hard to kill."
Gomen sighed in relief, "Then that means we can kill it if we work together."
Cassius wasn’t so hopeful. Still, there was no other choice than fighting. The two men pulled their weapons and charged at the wolf.
"Wind tornado!"
Elder Cassius’s wind technique slammed against the wolf, and it was pushed back by a few steps.
’Only that?’ Gomen was surprised, but didn’t really let it affect him.
He sliced at the wolf’s body, his attacks leaving behind water bubbles on the wounds.
As soon as he distanced himself from the wolf, he said, "Burst."
The bubbles burst open with sharpness, digging deeper into the wound. The wolf growled in pain, its eyes locking onto the patriarch’s figure. Then, it lunged at him. The man barely avoided the wolf’s claws, his face pale.
Still, he didn’t back down. He immediately slashed at the wolf’s side again, leaving small bubbles on the wound.
A moment later, the bubbles burst under his command, further injuring the wolf.
Suddenly, it opened its mouth and shot a condensed ball of darkness at the patriarch. The man hurriedly retreated, while Elder Cassius stepped forward.
"Tornado!"
The wind picked up around the darkness ball and redirected it into the horde of shadow wolves.
Boom!
The moment the ball landed, black flame erupted, and several shadow wolves were swallowed in the chaos.
Patriarch Gomen’s expression hardened, ’Sugh a deadly attack.’
He turned back to the Rank Three Master Stage Shadow Wolf, then got even more serious. The same went for Elder Cassius.
The two men fought against the wolf with all they had, keeping it at bay and stopping it from killing the other Moonveil Warriors.
In fact, they were able to injure it slightly. However, only slightly. The injuries they had given it were almost insignificant.
"Haa... haa... my spiritual energy is almost depleted," Cassius said as he used another wind tornado to redirect the ball of darkness away from them.
"Same here," Gomen panted, his breathing heavy. "But we still have to keep fighting!"
Suddenly, they both heard a voice, "Not anymore."
The voice was soft and melodious, causing the battlefield to pause for a moment. Even the wolves paused briefly.
The voice belonged to a beautiful girl with lustrous black hair. She wore the disciple robes of the Soul Cross Sect, and it caused every human on the battlefield to sigh in relief.
"Senior Sister Sylvia?!" One of the inner court disciples cried out in surprise.
Sylvia landed beside the Patriarch, then bowed to the man.
"Greetings, sir Clan Patriarch."
The man hurriedly helped her up, as he could tell that she was much stronger than him.
Sylvia nodded with a smile, then glanced at the wolf that was ready to attack them again.
She took out a sword from her storage ring, then disappeared.
Slice!
The wolf hurriedly jumped to the side to avoid its neck being cut. However, its ribs suffered a gruesome wound.
Sylvia didn’t stop. She grabbed its tail, using it to turn around, then hacked towards its head against.
The wolf recoiled from her attack, shooting a condensed ball of darkness at her. Sylvia merely raised a hand, and a thick wall manifested before it, completely blocking the attack.
"Wow. She’s a Peak Master Stage cultivator. So young and talented," Elder Cassius said in surprise as he watched Sylvia easily suppress the wolf.
The poor creature continued to amass injuries and scars while being tossed around by Sylvia.
Suddenly, it turned away from her and dashed at the two old men to eat them.
"Pillar," Sylvia’s voice was soft.
Just as the wolf pounced, a pillar of rock shot out of the ground and slammed into its jaws. The wolf’s head jerked back upwards.
Its maws were forced shut, and some of its teeth were cracked or shattered.
"Don’t resist," She said, locking its legs into the ground as soon as it landed.
The wolf tried to struggle, but it wasn’t fast enough.
Sylvia took out her sword, then sliced at its neck smoothly.
The beast dropped to the ground and died. It must have regretted attacking the Moonveil Clan at all.
Soon after, that remaining shadow wolves were killed, and the losses were calculated.
"Patriarch, we lost about 170 warriors out of our original 1000 warriors," Toma reported as he bowed to the man.
Gomen’s brows furrowed, and he couldn’t help but feel his heart tighten at the information. Those were his warriors that had swore to protect their homes. They were the men who he had watched as they trained.
"I will forever remember you all."
He whispered as he watched the corpses being packed to a corner to get burnt.
After the special cultural funeral was given to the fallen warriors, everyone returned inside the clan.
Sylvia and the other two disciples were welcomed into the Patriarch’s manor, where they were served properly as guests.
"Thank you very much for the support, Miss Sylvia."
Patriarch Gomen said, a polite smile on his face.
"Ah, it’s nothing," She waved it off with bright smile on her face. "After all, this is Seraph’s home. I have to protect it."
Gomen and Cassius exchanged a glance, their expressions incredulous.
"Oh, I see. You must be one of Seraph’s friends," Elder Cassius said with a smile.
Sylvia nodded, her smile widening, "It’s a pity that he couldn’t come with me. I wanted someone to tour me around the city."
Elder Cassius immediately said, "If it’s touring the city, we can surely find someone to be your guide, Miss Sylvia."
The girl’s eyes lit up, and she nodded. "Alright, thank you."
Suddenly, Patriarch Gomen asked in a subtle voice.
"How is... my daughter?"
He looked really curious.
"Your daughter? Oh, you mean Ariana Moonveil," Sylvia blinked after realizing who he was talking about.
Then she smiled. "Your daughter is doing fine. She has currently broken through to the Master Stage. She couldn’t come with me because she was busy stabilizing her cultivation. But she did send her greetings."
Hearing this, Patriarch Gomen was pleased. He looked jubilant, even. Glancing at Cassius, he said, "Didn’t I tell you? My daughter is a genius. Already Master Stage at the age of 16! No one would easily believe that. Hahahaha."
The two men were joyous and forgot about Sylvia until she coughed.
"Ah, sorry, Miss Sylvia. I’ll arrange a tour guide for you now," Gomen said hurriedly, then called a guard to fetch two people.
After waiting for a while, two of Seraph’s classmates arrived—Toma and Lana.
The two youngsters stared at Sylvia in surprise, as she looked so ethereal and beautiful.
The two of them then led Sylvia out of the Patriarch’s manor into the small city. Sylvia looked around, studying the place where Seraph had grown up as a child.
"That is our marketplace—usually active everyday," Toma said, pointing at the distance where lots of sellers and buyers were gathered.
"I see. Looks lively," She commented, then pointed to a building in the distance. "What about that place?"
Lana glanced there, then answered, "That’s our blacksmithing shop. All the clan weapons are made there."
"Oh, I see."
Sylvia nodded, and they continued touring the clan. They showed her several other important buildings in the small city like the school, hospital, and others.
Soon, Sylvia could no longer resist the urge to ask.
"Do you know where Seraph lives?"
"Seraph? You mean Seraph Skye?" Toma gasped in surprise.
"Hm," She nodded.
Instantly, Toma’s expression lit up. "Of course, I do! He’s the most talented in our generation, and he’s our best friend too!"
Sylvia was surprised that Seraph was actually hospitable and had friends, but she didn’t let it show on her expression.
"You seem very close with him. Can you tell me more about him?"
Toma nodded like a hen pecking at maize seeds, then began talking. He spoke about how he had met Seraph in the classroom during their first year, then how Seraph had awed him during their first mission, and other moments they had spent together during their stay at the school.
As they spoke, Lana led the way to the Skye family house, and soon enough, they arrived there.
The building had changed greatly after Seraph had left. After all, Clem had become a rich man from the light bulb business he had started. Every house in the clan now had a light bulb, and he was making money from creating and selling them.
Just as they were about to knock, the door opened and a young boy of about two years old stepped out, looking at the three visitors curiously.
