Chapter 3 3
Chapter 3 3
The two decided not to speak to each other.
Tim is satisfied. This is easier to handle.Jason was in the living room, messing with who knows what, while Tim was busy with Wayne Enterprises and his own business.Sitting around at night is uncomfortable, and both he and Jason are desperate to get out and fight crime.
Tim is full of resentment for not being able to go out even though he is physically strong. He was grounded, but not because he broke his arm or was bedridden. He was ordered to sit on the bench for being bonded to Jason.
Tim's phone screen lit up.
: I heard about it, do you want to chat?
It's Stephanie. It looks like she knows.Tim had really only texted Connor, and his pals didn't think Jason was his soul mate, either, but they both knew it was just going to be a week anyway.
Before Tim could type a reply, his phone rang.
"Hi, Stephen."
"I said, what about Jason?"
Tim sighed. "So-so, that's all. I don't even know what he's up to in my living room right now."
"You two didn't stay together?"
"Two rooms," Tim explained.
Stephanie snorted. "Are you determined to sever the connection after a week?"
"Of course, this is Jason Todd."
Stephanie laughed over there. "right."
"what do you want to say in the end?"
"It's nothing. I just mean...forget it. Can you really accept the state without the red line?"
Tim looked at his hands again. He couldn't touch the rope, but seeing it in his hand was already a natural thing.
How many types of red lines are there?
The soul mates who have not yet met each other have a red rope whose end melts into the air.And after verifying the two parties behind, the red line will connect to each other's partners. Those who decide to cut the cord, disconnect, will have absolutely no red lines on their hands. If one of the connected two loses his/her lover, his/her red thread will break and turn black.
"My mother didn't," Tim said.
"My dad is too, but we don't have to follow the old path of our parents."
Tim sighs. "I know you're happy with Kassan and you want me to be too, but he's not Kassan. Kassan is... the only one. Jason sucks as a soul mate."
Stephen chuckled. "Imagine that. Sorry for you, Tim."
Tim shrugged. There is nothing he can do about it.Even if he tried hard... Jason wouldn't want to be with him.He can't stand Tim, no, he hates Tim.Yesterday was sufficient proof. It's no use trying to be nice to Jason, and it's no use hoping something will change between the two of them.He can only sit and wait.
"Don't worry about it," Tim said. "Chat with me, I'm tired of staying in the house."
"You should come here," Stephanie said.
"With Jason?" Tim snorted. "Good."
"No, we're at the estate. Bruce called us for a family meeting or something."
"Family or... family."
"Well, the cloak family gathering."
"Don't take me?!"
"Tim, there's nothing you can do here, you're off-"
Tim hung up the phone and ran into the living room.Luckily Jason was well dressed and sitting on the couch reading a book. "Let's go to the Batcave," he began.
Jason looked up from his book. "ha?"
"Are you reading my book?" Jason was noncommittal. "Didn't I say not to move anything?"
"My God, you still care about a book. What else can I do here? It's boring here."
Tim couldn't help but agree. "Let's go to the Batcave, where they're all meeting except us."
Jason sat up and stretched. As Jason moved, the body exposed under the lifted shirt caught Tim's sight for a moment.Soon, he tore his eyeballs away from Jason's body.
"Do you have to go?"
"Yeah. It's unbelievable that they left us out just because we—" Tim swallowed the rest of the words with a groan in his throat. Then he caught a glimpse of the book Jason was reading. "Are you watching Hamlet?"
"Have you ever wondered how fucked up it is that people are arguing over whether Hamlet and Ophelia are soul mates? They're definitely not," Jason asked back.
Tim shook his head. "On the contrary, it's quite possible. Soulmates aren't perfect. Like the two of us. What the fuck."
There are soul ties to other people as well. Therefore, after the end of the red week, a large number of people choose to make a clean break with their partners.Tim's mother couldn't wait to cut contact after the week was over. From time to time he wondered which man her original partner should be.Maybe they missed a life that should have been happy and fulfilling.
"You're right." Jason said calmly.
----------------
As it turns out, Bruce hadn't called them over for their own good.
The meeting was embarrassing.First, they chose not to sit with each other quite wrongly. The red thread runs across the table, stretching from Jason to Tim in front of everyone's eyes. Now that they are all seated, it would be embarrassing to get up and change seats.
Afterwards, Tim and Jason fought each other, and neither of them gave in to the other. Their red line was shortened sharply, and in the end Tim still had to get up and sit next to Jason, almost holding hands.
When the meeting was finally over, Bruce let them go.Kassan and Stephen have a date tonight, they're gone, and Barbara is going back to Birds of Prey.Duke went to meet his girlfriend.Harper has a date with her brother, and the only ones left in the Batcave with Jason Tim are the two most annoying guys.
dick.Damian.
"Well, how's your progress so far?" Dick asked beamingly.
"Get out," Jason told him.
Dick couldn't hold back his smile. "Jason! How about you, Tim?"
Tim rolled his eyes. "You see for yourself?"
"Tsk. I was surprised when I first heard the news, but not now. You're a perfect match, morons."
"Everyone knows, you and Colin exchanged promise rings, who cares about you!" Jason muttered.
"Come on, Jay. Don't be so mad, I think they're cute," Dick reassured.
Tim feels sorry for Colin, the kid who's been tied to Damian as a soul mate since he was 12.He's a good boy, always polite when he talks to Tim.Being with Damian was too wronged him.
"Although I know you guys want to cut the rope in a week, maybe you can—"
"No," they both said in unison.
"At least go to something down town! I hear it's great! Wally and Linda got on good terms after they went," Dick said.
Damian flicked his tongue. "Those are useless. Colin and I don't need them for friendship. But I went anyway to keep him happy."
Tim rubbed his temples. "Jason, let's go home."
Damian frowned narrowly. "Okay, hurry back to the little nest you love."
Tim took a sharp breath. "Damian, why are you always so incompetent? Do you think that with Colin you have the capital to look up? Why don't you owe your father's soul mate to your mother."
Damian jumped at him.Immediately after Tim was thrown down by him, he fought. If the rope hadn't dragged Jason in to get in the way, he wouldn't be so disadvantaged.
"Todd, get out of the way, get out of the way between me and Drake!"
"Forgive me for being powerless!"
"You guys, stop fighting!" Dick begged. He grabs Damian by the scruff of his neck and pulls him away from Tim. "Tim, that's too rude of you to say that."
"What he said was a faux pas."
"You dare to mention my mother again!" Damian roared angrily. His face flushed with anger.Tim had figured out early on that the best way to blow Damian up was to take advantage of his mother's situation.
"Why don't you go back," said Dick.
"It's time to go back." Jason picked Tim up from the ground.
————————————————————
Jason opened the door.
No, that would be too commonplace. He actually slams the door open, nearly rolling Tim out of bed.
"stand up."
"what?"
"I'm bored."
Tim stared at him, repeating. "You're bored."
"Yeah, your books suck, and so does your movie collection. I've got to get out, let's get out," Jason said.
"No." Tim shook his head, but Jason walked straight to him, and within a few steps he was in front of the bed where Tim was lying.
"Don't act like you're going to die."
"I'm not dying!"
"You mean your bedroom has always been like this?" Jason pointed to the surroundings.Tim shrugged. He was used to it, and it didn't bother him at all to have markers and pens strewn all over the floor, newspaper articles and other case files strewn all over the floor, and clothes on the floor that he didn't bother to pick up.
"Right?"
"My God. Let's get out of here."
"Jason, it's getting late. I need to go to bed."
"You, and I, know it's made up. It's just midnight, when we're usually out."
Tim looked unhappy. "I want to stay inside."
"You're still mad at what the devil bastard said. Who the hell cares? He's got a whole Napoleon complex going on."
"He's only half a head shorter than me!" Thinking of this made his mood worse, and soon Damian would be taller than him, and Tim would become the shortest one.In the past, whenever he looked down at Damian, he would feel refreshed in his heart.
"I have to drag you out of bed?"
Timmy is happy. "Drag me away if you have the ability." This is a sarcastic statement, not a joke.Jason grabbed him, however, and lifted him onto his shoulders.
"Fuck me! Jason, put me down!" Tim kicked his legs and Jason sighed and lowered him to the ground.
"Let's go outside."
Tim scowled. "What do you want to do when you go out?"
Jason shrugged his shoulders and walked around Tim to the bedroom door, kicking a pen off the wall along the way, just because he wanted to and at the same time annoyed Tim. "Go for a drink."
"Jason, I'm under the legal age."
Jason stopped on the doorstep and turned around. "Really? Damn, tell me again how old are you?"
"Two months away from turning 20."
"You always have a fake ID?"
Tim groans. "Give me three ten minutes."
----------------
He didn't know what he was here for.
Tim should be Red Robin, glowing outside. As a result, he was dragged into a bar by Jason, bought two bottles of beer, and placed them in front of Tim.He himself would never set foot in this place.
"I don't like beer," Tim said.
"It's a pity, Alvin Draper likes it," Jason said, smiling at Tim, holding up the bottle.Tim sighed, picked up his and touched it. "cheers."
He sits down next to Tim, who tries not to look at the red thread that connects them. The length is generous, and it hangs loosely from the table, partly over their legs.
"Then... Ivan."
"Change the subject." Tim rolled his eyes and took a sip from his beer.It tasted as bad as Tim had expected.
"Ok."
They sat in silence for a while.Tim didn't know what to say.He understood Jason's desire to leave the apartment, but at least he chose a better place.A place where Tim doesn't have to talk and the atmosphere isn't deadly embarrassing.
"I didn't even know you had your ears pierced," Jason said after a moment.
Tim shrugged. "It was done in a case a few years ago."
"Evan was born."
Even though Tim had stated that he didn't want to talk about it, Jason still knew what to do. "Yes," he replied.
"He seems like an interesting guy."
"Yeah? I think he's like a goofy hat." At least when Tim dresses up for the role, with tons of hairspray pushed back and gold studs. At least, the character isn't as awkward as his acerbic persona.
Jason laughed. "No, he's a little hot." Tim choked on the beer. "Relax, substitute."
"Don't you want to go back to your own apartment to get your stuff?" Tim asked. "Similarly, get some books, movies, etc.? The files of the case in your hand? Instead of killing it here."
"Wow, just say you hate being with me."
Tim tensed his jaw. "I don't mean that."
"Yes Yes."
"You're the one who keeps calling me a replacement," Tim said. It's been almost three years since he wasn't Robin, yet Jason still hasn't changed his mind.
Jason downed almost half a bottle of beer in one gulp. "Why is there Hamlet in your house?"
"What?" Tim blinked.
"Just asking. It doesn't fit with the rest of your books. Otaku. It's all fucking Star Wars."
"Come on, I know you love Star Wars too," Tim said. "That's for the case."
Jason raised his eyebrows. "Hamlet is needed for the case?"
Tim tilts his head. "Are you sure you want to hear how a Shakespeare-obsessed villain gives clues to his next attack through drama? The plot is terrific."
"Of course fucking listen. You should have told me you met such a cool villain in the first place!"
Tim doesn't think that's cool, but it's the first time in a long time that they're actually talking, not arguing.
*Napoleon complex, also known as "short stature syndrome".Simply put, short people are more violent.People who support the existence of this complex believe that short people are more violent than tall people, and that short people will suffer from inferiority complexes and have a compensatory psychology of being stronger than others in other ways. (Aha, five short stature syndrome)
