Chapter 1144 Reverse Lightning: Facing Fate
"Hmm."
The Riddler didn't give his opinion directly. He first asked the Time Master for a lot of information, then quickly browsed through it. Thanks to his super high intelligence, he was able to process information very quickly, and his sharp mind allowed him to extract what he wanted from a large amount of invalid information and analyze it.
He then posed a new question: "If we were to directly try to stop anti-surveillance agents, what are your plans?"
"Are you sure you really want to do this?" the Time Master asked.
"Just asking," the riddle-maker replied casually.
Edward Nigmar's exceptional intelligence endowed him with extraordinary observational abilities. In his view, the options given by the Time Master were subtly guiding him to seek out more teammates. After all, anyone with a modicum of rationality would not choose to repeat the path that the Time Master had "confirmed" to fail, or act like a crazy brute and rashly lead Superman into the game, only to have it explode.
In truth, the Riddler didn't harbor any other doubts about the Time Master; he simply instinctively sensed the manipulation.
This led to an unconscious process of collecting information in reverse.
Based on what he has observed so far, there is no doubt that the Time Master is wary and hostile towards the Void Hand.
But that doesn't mean anything.
Moreover, the Golden Vanguard cannot speak.
"Directly stop the anti-surveillance agents? Our plan is the same as before—"
The Time Master was completely unaware of the Riddler's suspicions, a difference in intelligence that made the Time Master, to some extent, one-way transparent to the Riddler—but this could also be an illusion deceiving me.
The riddle-maker pondered.
"We previously tried to cut off the spread of the Anti-Life Zombie Equation at its source, but we failed. So the only possible way to stop the Anti-Monitors is to use Cyborg to reverse-decipher the antidote for the Anti-Life Zombie virus."
But this requires not only the omniscient and omnipotent Möbius Chair, but also the brains of many wise men and the help of the swamp monster. We can use the Green of All Things to gather the wisdom of everyone and the knowledge of the Möbius Chair to create a thought engine, and only then will the antidote become a reality.
The problem now is that this complex series of events is far more difficult to address than nipping it in the bud, and if we fail even by addressing the root cause, then —”
"Then we don't even need to try anything more complicated."
"Yes," said the Time Master. "Well, I have to admit, we are completely helpless in the face of this situation. The only viable solution is to find more teammates to help us. Forgive me for being reluctant to admit this before. I always fantasize about scenarios I can't even imagine, but we ultimately have to admit that the situation is terrible."
He held his head in his hands.
"So, who are we recruiting from? If possible—"
The Riddler didn't show anything on the surface. The Master of Time's words dispelled his doubts, at least for now. He did seem to be overthinking things, which sounded like a common problem among intelligent people.
Yes, he does overthink things—this, like his penchant for riddles, is a flaw he needs to correct.
"—If possible, why don't we just recruit Superman or Batman/Dragon from another timeline, and then send them back to their respective timelines and erase their memories after everything is over?"
The Riddler, without any formal instruction, used the "robbing Peter to pay Paul" method, a favorite of time-travel authors. If we discover a crisis that the universe cannot resolve, we simply summon the most powerful heroes from various timelines, have them solve the crisis, and then send them back. This way, history remains unchanged. What a brilliant idea!
"No, no, you understand? That's the hardest part, and that's why I came to you. Batman: Dragon has undertaken a massive project. He directly cut off a portion of the DC multiverse's timeline history and then started rewriting a new history for the DC multiverse at a certain point in time. So now, both the old and new histories are as fragile as porcelain that will crumble at the slightest touch."
The Time Master warned, "We can rob Peter to pay Paul, but only if we don't demolish load-bearing walls. This is a problem we have to solve ourselves; at most, we can look for some less important figures in the history of the trans-timeline."
"Not important, but powerful. It's a complete paradox; if he were powerful enough, he couldn't possibly be unknown in the Time Stream. Speaking of which, what was Heroic Death's history before the Anti-Monitor interfered?"
The riddle-maker asked, "The information you gave me didn't cover this."
"I have no idea."
"What do you mean?"
"It means that the history of the hero's death has been erased from my mind."
The Time Master said, "The Anti-Monitor couldn't completely erase the past, but he erased our memories through other means, most likely five-dimensional magic."
If a timeline is altered, the Time Stream will automatically modify other people's memories. However, the Time Master can clearly confirm that his memory of Hero Death was not overwritten, but completely erased, leaving only a blank space. This is not the effect of the Time Stream overwriting.
"So, we might be facing a five-dimensional enemy?"
"Five-dimensional enemies are at least easier to deal with than anti-surveillance agents."
That's true. Although the five-dimensional sprites seem to be incredibly powerful and capable of altering reality, as magic, they are inherently subject to a whole host of things that can counter them. This includes, but is not limited to, the Hanged Man, the Goddess of Magic, and even sorcerers like Constantine and Lady of the Upper City who sometimes have resistance to five-dimensional magic. Natazar from Earth-3 even has the ability to capture and control mischievous sprites, and once helped Superman Supreme trap a mischievous sprite.
"So let's talk about who we should go to first."
"Okay, first, we need a speedster, the kind who can use the Speed Force. He has to be fast enough to make sure we don't get caught by the Anti-Monitor when we re-enter the Heroes of the Dead universe. I've actually already locked onto the universe where Reverse-Flash is."
"Wait a minute, you need to tell me which Reverse Lightning it is first."
"The strongest Reverse-Flash besides the one in the main universe."
"So what is its origin?"
"From the Dark Multiverse, Flashpoint," Master Time said. "Batman Dragon's actions have caused him to merge with the Reverse-Flash memories of the Chen Tao universe—or with Reverse-Flash himself from the Chen Tao universe."
"He abandoned his destiny of moving forward and fled into the multiverse."
The Time Master paused.
"And now, we must make him face his destiny."
